What's The Weather In Lithuania Like?

Lithuania runs through all four seasons during the year.

What kind of clothes and accessories you bring with you while serving abroad in Lithuania heavily depends on which semester you are going.

ILP has three semesters there: Spring, Summer and Fall. Check out the difference between each of these three so you're prepared:

Spring

Don't be confused by the name — spring semester in the ILP world ranges from January to April. Our ILP volunteers who go in the Spring will get to experience what the weather in Lithuania is like during the winter, as well as what spring looks like. Fun!

The average low temperature of your semester will be between 15-20 degrees fahrenheit (keep in mind that it's humid, and humid cold is somehow colder than dry cold), and the average high for your semester will be between 50-60 degrees or a bit warmer. How to stay warm? Layers! Bring shirts to wear when it's warmer, that can also work under a few sweaters, cardigans, a fleece and/or a coat. Scarves and gloves and a hat are also good ideas.

Summer

Summer time (April to August) is beautiful! If you're not a huge fan of super hot weather, you're in the right place! When you first arrive it will be around 60 degrees and by the end it will be around 80-90 degrees fahrenheit. Bring some light jackets for the chillier days and bring shorts for the hot days! It does rain quite often, so having an umbrella handy is a must.

Fall

Our fall semester is similar to the Spring semester, but backwards. It will be around 70 degrees when you arrive, but it starts to get cold soon after (it will drop to about 15-20 degrees fahrenheit and will probably snow by the end of the semester). So, don't bring shorts! They are a waste of space because it'll only be warm for the beginning of your semester. Around October, you will start to see the Lithuanian winter come through, so bring layers! The heaters in the apartments will not kick in right away, so you will need some warmer sleeping clothes.
